Identity is a huge part of culture today. It’s so huge that people rush out there to slap labels upon themselves. I’m not such a fan of labels because people tend to box themselves to fit these labels.
I try not to label myself by saying “I am a libertarian” or “I am a tomboy” or “I am a Christian” or “I am postmodern” etc… I may agree with these views but I don’t like putting on these labels to use them to say who I am. I think labels are taking away people’s chance to get to know each other. We look for the label, read it and then either go our way or assume we know the person underneath the label.
I’m not going to write a huge biography about me. If you want to know things just ask. I might decline to answer but if you are willing to listen I don’t mind sharing myself with people.
What labels do you normally hide behind?
What labels do you wish people would not put on you?
So what are your thoughts?
